DRS Group enters education sector via franchise route

DRS Group, a logistic service provider is going to set up 50 schools across the nation in the next five years span. Out of the 50 schools, 90 per cent will be franchised and the rest will be company owned, as confirmed by a company official. As per the information, the company is planning to open the first five schools by 2010 in cities like Nagpur, Amravati, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ranipet (Tamil Nadu). Afterwards, the company will open around 10 schools on yearly basis. The company is further going to set up around 11 company owned schools by investing Rs 465 crore. DRS Group is eying a raise 50 per cent of the fund through private equity funding route. Presently, the company is in talks with some private equity funds and is expecting to close the deal in the coming month. Besides this, the schools will have temperature controlled classrooms. Along with this, all the campuses will have the facility of swimming pools, skating rings, student performance tracking software and smart boards.
