Experts converge at the National Committee on Franchising in Food, Beverages & Hospitality held Indian Franchise Association

To create a strong brand visibility for Food & Beverages sector through franchising in India over the next two years and to brainstorm on the varied issues that the industry is currently facing.

New Delhi, July, 2011: Some of the top patrons from the F & B Industry came together at the first National Committee on Franchising in the sector for interactions and knowledge sharing on various topics related to the best practices, regulatory issues and future trends in the industry. The event, which was organized by Indian Franchise Association was held on1st July in Noida.

Members shared their views on the status of the industry and mentioned that the industry is in nascent stage and is growing rapidly but at the same time is facing various challenges that need to be met boldly. The most common one of them is the paucity of trained manpower & poor productivity of the present human resource, which they believed is the biggest challenge in juxtaposition some other problems such as taxation, licensing or even real estate. Apart from decelerating the company’s production, they thought it also halts the progress of the sector as a whole. The unorganized and fragmented nature of the sector is another area that they believed corrodes the industry and prevents it reap the actual and real benefits. Mr. Sanjay Coutinho , Chairman, IFA National Committee on Franchising in Food, Beverages & Hospitality and CEO, Barista Coffee Company Ltd, A lavazza Company added, “The biggest challenge that I find is that it is yet not recognized by the govt. Franchising s considered just a subset.”

The members at the Committee included Mr. G.S.Bhalla (Cocoberry Retail Pvt. Ltd.), Mr. Sanjay Coutinho (Barista Lavazza), Mr. Samir Kuckreja (Nirulas Corner House Pvt. Ltd.), Mr. Ashish Kapur(Yo China - Moods Hospitality Pvt. Ltd.), Mr. Gaurav Jain (RTC Restaurant India Ltd.), Mr. Kabir Advani (Bercos Melody House), Mr. Vyoum Ghai (Buzz – R.G Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.) to name a few. This Committee will focus on creating a strong brand visibility for Food & Beverages sector through franchising in India over the next two years, promotes the Indian F&B brands in the overseas market and devise strategies to overcome the challenges that the industry is facing at present.

Mr. G.S.Bhalla of Cocoberry deliberated, “There is a huge disconnect between a franchisee and his expectation. Hence a proper structured course should be started wherein proper knowledge and guidance is imparted on the franchisee as to what all does it take to be a franchisee and the endurance that it entails”

Explaining the reason behind the popularity of F & B business opportunities among investors, Mr. Mohit Ganglani, Business Head of IFA said, “As the restaurant market in India is witnessing spiraling growth with more companies opening restaurants, faster and in optimal locations, the need of manpower is also surfacing. IFA recognizes the graveness of the issue and is coming with a skill development program with NSDC, bridging the gap between the companies and their manpower constraint.”
